Davao City –  The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) is campaigning for responsible policy-making and governance that is focused on the impoverished sector throughout the Philippines.

This is after NAPC organized and coordinated the Post-Distribution Monitoring Survey (PDS) and assessed that there is a need for a continued campaign for both the national government and local government units to promote responsible governance by stamping out corrupt government practices.

NAPC Attorney Noel K. Felongco discussed that the findings of the recent PDS conducted by the commission emphasized the stern campaign of both the National Government and Local Government Units to help the impoverished sector through responsible policy-making and governance approaches.

“What I think is this is the proper time to look into this [responsible governance] … and come up with policies that will give proper punishment to the abuses of local governments,” Felongco said.

Felongco highlighted the recent reports of corruption and abuse of power by officials working in local government units throughout the country who have purposely misappropriated government funds allocated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Social Amelioration Program (SAP) to help those who are severely affected by the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Felongco credited the NAPC-organized PDS as a concrete basis for members of the policy-making body of the government craft policies that are geared towards promoting responsible governance amongst local government leaders in the country.

“I don’t want to pre-empt this but from my point of view, there will be policy recommendations that will be based on the conducted [NAPC] PDS,” Felongco added. (KPLCaro)
