Davao City (PIA) – Mindanao, with its growing economy needs additional power plants in the next three years, according to Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries Inc. President Art Milan.

“If there is no new power coming in the next three years we will use up our reserve power,” Milan said during his guesting at Kapehan sa SM media forum held Dec. 17, Monday at SM Davao.

“At the rate we are growing, if we will have double digit growth we will quickly use up our reserve,” Milan said.

He said the forecast does not yet incorporate the realization of Mindanao grid being interconnected with the grid in Visayas.

Mindanao Grid has about 800 megawatt of reserve power. Power consumption has been growing at 8% with a possibility of reaching a 10% increase.

Milan said there has been no reported new investments of large power plants though there are plans of putting up small capacity renewable power plants like solar and hydroelectric.

“That (renewable plants) will augment the power supply in Mindanao,” the DCCCII prexy said.
