On September 17, 2025, the City Government of Iriga, through the City Veterinary Office, gathered officials and representatives from all 36 barangays of the city for a Training and Orientation on the Implementation of Barangay-Based Animal Impounding Facility at the DTI-SSF, 2F ICT Building.
Acting City Veterinarian Dr. Mark Kevin I. Badiola warmly welcomed the participants, and Councilor Jeff B. Tino, Chairperson of the newly created Committee on Animal Welfare, expressed his support for the initiative through a message that reaffirmed the importance of responsible pet ownership and strengthened rabies prevention measures.
The training covered key topics including the National Rabies Program, Iriga City’s Rabies Control Programs, the Responsible Pet Ownership Ordinance (2021–28), and other services of the City Veterinary Office. To complement the discussions, participants also took part in a demonstration and site visit at the Iriga Animal Impounding Facility led by Anthony T. Molina, Companion Animal Services Focal Person.
Through this initiative, barangays are now empowered to take a more active role in conducting their own stray-catching activities—an effort that was previously handled solely by the City Government. With this shared responsibility, Iriga is taking a stronger step forward in promoting animal welfare, public health, and community safety.
