The Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) under the leadership of PBGEN ANDRE P DIZON, RD continues to intensify its campaign against illegal firearms, recording 20 violations of the election gun ban from January 12 to February 22, 2025. The violations stemmed from four police responses, four anti-illegal drug operations, five firearm-related buy-bust operations, and three other law enforcement activities. These efforts are part of the police force’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and order during the election period.
As a result of these operations, authorities confiscated 21 assorted firearms, including 17 small arms, one light weapon, two shotguns, and one hand grenade, along with 150 rounds of ammunition. The successful crackdown also led to the arrest of 21 civilian violators, who will face legal consequences for violating the gun ban. These proactive measures are in line with the PNP’s strict enforcement of election security policies to prevent violence and intimidation related to illegal firearms.
A breakdown of the violations shows that Albay recorded the highest number with seven cases, followed by Masbate with four, Sorsogon and Camarines Sur with three each, Camarines Norte with two, and Naga City with one. This data highlights the areas where illegal firearm possession remains a concern, prompting PRO5 to further strengthen its monitoring and enforcement efforts in these locations.
Beyond gun ban enforcement, PNP Bicol has conducted 7,329 COMELEC checkpoints across the region to curb criminal activities and deter potential threats during the election period. These checkpoints serve as an additional layer of security, ensuring that no unauthorized individuals are carrying firearms, explosives, or other prohibited weapons that could disrupt the peace and order of the electoral process.
RD DIZON commended the operating units for their dedication and vigilance in implementing the gun ban, emphasizing that the relentless campaign against illegal firearms is crucial to safeguarding the integrity of the upcoming elections. He reassured the public that PRO5 remains steadfast in its duty to protect communities and uphold the rule of law.
“This intensified campaign stresses our commitment to a safe and orderly electoral process. The strict enforcement of the gun ban is not just about compliance—it is about preventing violence, protecting lives, and ensuring that every voter can exercise their right safely and without fear. We urge the public to cooperate, remain vigilant, and report any violations. The safety of every Bicolano is our top priority,” RD Dizon added.
