Installation of closed-circuit television systems (CCTV) in high-risk areas, public spaces, and business establishments will now be mandated in Camalig, Albay to deter crimes and innovate area monitoring efforts through real-time capture, recording, and storage of activities within the town.
Through the Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-51 or the Camalig CCTV Ordinance which was passed by the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) and approved by Mayor Carlos “Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo Jr. on February 5, 2024, owners of business establishments and heads of government entities will be obligated to install CCTV in their premises, covering the area’s entrance and exit points.
All covered by the local law are financial establishments like banks, pawnshops, money remittance services, and more; it also includes convenience stores, drugstores, grocery stores, supermarkets, wet markets, health clinics, and other associated businesses.
Further, educational establishments, flood-risk areas, crime-prone areas, and public places like parking lots and plazas.
Business owners who fail to abide by the said ordinance will be subject to penalties and a minimum fine of Php 2,500, or worst, cancellation and non-renewal of business permit, as enclosed in the approved municipal ordinance.
Said initiative was tackled during the emergency meeting called on by the MDRRMO Chief, Rommel Negrete Jr., PhD, JD, D. Hum., who discussed further the local government’s increased security measures and disaster mitigation efforts towards achieving a community free from hazards and any forms of threat.
