A former employee of a local private school in Masbate successfully recovered their unpaid salary amounting to P190,000.00 upon the conciliation-mediation of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol, in support of Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentino’s intensified implementation of the Single Entry Approach (SEnA) Program.
Through the DOLE Masbate Provincial Office, the worker claimed the said amount covering their unpaid salary for nine months and a proportionate 13th-month pay.
OIC Regional Director Atty. Nepomuceno A. Leaño II, CPA, welcomed the successful settlement and its positive outcome for the requesting party.
“We are pleased that the requesting party was able to recover the compensation due to them. We were able to facilitate a fair settlement and at the same time, educate our workers and employers on their obligations,” said OIC RD Atty. Leaño II.
The worker sought assistance after repeated requests and follow-ups with their former employer failed to secure the release of their unpaid wages following their resignation. Having exhausted all available means to settle the matter directly, the worker filed a request for assistance under the SEnA Program.
The conciliation conferences were facilitated by SEnA Desk Officer (SEADO) Pablito P. Lusanta, who guided the parties through the conciliation process and informed of their respective rights and obligations under existing labor laws.
Through constructive dialogue and effective mediation, the parties reached a mutually acceptable settlement without resorting to lengthy and costly litigation. The employer subsequently paid the agreed amount in full, resulting in the successful resolution of the concern.
Expressing his gratitude, Gil (not his real name) expressed his gratitude for helping him recover the compensation due to him.
“Damo-damo na salamat sa DOLE. Nakuha ko na an dugay ko na gina handom na kwarta. Kala ko dili ko na ini makukua. Kaya dako gayud na pasalamat ko sa DOLE sa pag-action san akon complain,” he said.
(“Thank you very much to DOLE. I have finally received the money that I have been waiting for for a long time. I thought I would never be able to recover it. I am truly grateful to DOLE for taking action on my complaint.”).
Under the leadership of Secretary Tolentino, the program strives to promote open dialogue, protect workers’ rights, and encourage peaceful resolution of labor issues through appropriate channels. [END] Source: Photo/Data: P. Lusanta/DOLE Masbate
