To bolster the equitable delivery of comprehensive health services across the Bicol Region, particularly to the underserved and unserved communities, the Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development empowers its workforce with the Universal Health Care Implementers’ Course.
Spearheaded by the Human Resources Development Unit (HRDU), the UHC Implementers’ Course equipped its participants with competencies aimed at enhancing their understanding of the UHC framework in order to improve local health systems and complement policies with the changing needs of different populations.
An awarding ceremony was concluded on May 2, 2025 to twenty-six (26) permanent DOH employees for successfully completing Synchronous Sessions, immersing them with twelve (12) online and six (6) face-to-face modules for three (3) months.
Local Health Support Division (LHSD) Chief, Dr. Gladys Escote, was also in attendance to express her support to the participants. Dr. Escote’s involvement underscores LHSD’s commitment towards capacitating its employees to increase health coverage to all population groups.
The DOH, as the lead agency mandated for the enactment of the Universal Health Care Law, has anchored its support through the integration of the 8-Point Health Action Agenda. This agenda seeks to achieve a sustainable and resilient health system by placing inclusive access to primary care and public health functions at the forefront alongside a broad-based implementation of policy measures.
