Iriga: DOH Bicol joins BFP’s Fire Prevention Month kick-off, advocates fire safety

Aimed at spreading awareness on fire preparedness and safety, the Department of Heath Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol) took part in the kick-off of the Fire Prevention Month spearheaded by the Bureau of Fire Protection 5 on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

The celebration started with Lakaw Kabikolan: Rally for a Fire-Safe Bicol fun and unity walk where DOH Bicol personnel together with other invited agencies joined.

The Unity walk, which commenced at the Peñaranda Park, Old Albay District, Legazpi City and ended at Bicol University College of Engineering, is a symbolic representation of the strong collaboration between government and private groups in safeguarding the communities.

During the Kick-Off Program, about 23 heads of agencies and representatives from different government and private organizations including the DOH Bicol Concurrent Regional Director Usec. Nestor F. Santiago, Jr. represented by Dr. Monrey Isaiah C. Mancilla, Head of the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Cluster and the Health Promotion Unit expressed their support to the Bureau of Fire Protection’s mission and advocacy.

The DOH Bicol’s message of support emphasized the 4th Health Action Agenda: Handa sa Krisis which ensures a health system that is responsive and resilient with healthy communities that can effectively present, prepare and respond to health emergencies and crises including fire incidents. The department also appealed to the public to continuously practice vigilance and help raise awareness on fire prevention; and assured that it is ready to assist victims with its treatment and rehabilitation services.

The health department also pledged to promote safety tips, spread awareness and disseminate relevant information for healthy communities and inclusive healthcare characterized in the Bagong Pilipinas’ vision and action campaign. (DOH5/JLC)
