In line with the government’s efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and promote a culture of safety and resilience, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol participated in the 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on June 19, 2025 at the DENR Regional Center Site, Rawis, Legazpi City.
DENR Bicol Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Focal Person, FMS II Ronnie N. Nieva led the basic orientation on DRRM, emphasizing the importance of earthquake preparedness both at the workplace and at home. He also discussed the fundamental safety protocols, the significance of early warning systems, and the role of government agencies in responding efficiently to seismic emergencies.
Employees from the DENR Regional Office participated in the drill by doing the ‘Duck, Cover, and Hold’ procedure, following the evacuation protocol to simulate a real-time earthquake scenario.
DENR Bicol Assistant Regional Director for Special Concerns (ARD-SC) Adona P. San Diego urged all employees to internalize the lessons from the drill emphasizing the need for constant preparedness amid the unpredictability of natural disasters. “Dapat laging handa. Ang lindol ay walang pinipili, kaya dapat alam natin ang ating gagawin sa oras ng sakuna,” she said.
The DENR Bicol continues to support the national government’s thrust toward a safer and more resilient Philippines by actively engaging in regular drills and capacity-building activities.
