(Legazpi City, June 19, 2025) The Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Albay has approved a resolution to establish a municipal fisheries database to improve fishing practices in the Lagonoy Gulf.
This initiative stems from a proposal by 1st District Board Member Atty. Sheina Marie Onrubia Dela-Cruz, aiming to formalize a partnership among various local entities including the Partido State University and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
The database is set to enhance the management and conservation of municipal fish resources in the gulf.
It will serve as a central system for tracking fish populations and fishing activities, helping to prevent overfishing.
Overall, improved marine resource management is expected to increase economic returns for local fishermen by optimizing fishing practices.
Additionally, the database will facilitate the study of fish populations, environmental effects, and climate change impacts on fisheries.
