Iriga City Science High School takes Major Step Forward with Campus Groundbreaking

Iriga City Science High School (ICSHS) celebrated its Ceremonial Groundbreaking and 2nd Founding Anniversary on June 19, 2026 at Barangay Salvacion, Iriga City, carrying the theme “IrigaSci@2: Rising Strong, Building Dreams.” The event gathered local government officials, Department of Education (DepEd) leaders, teachers, students, and community stakeholders to witness the inauguration of school’s permanent campus.

In his keynote message, Mayor Rex C. Oliva reaffirmed that education remains a top priority of the Arriba Iriga Administration. He recalled that the establishment of Iriga City Science High School was the vision of former Schools Division Superintendent Mariano De Guzman, made possible through the partnership of the LGU Iriga, DepEd, and 5th Congressman Migz Villafuerte.

In his speech, Congressman Migz Villafuerte emphasized the importance of investing in the youth; expressing his belief that one of the country’s future scientists could come from Iriga City Science High School. He reaffirmed his support for initiatives that strengthen access to quality education and provide greater opportunities for young learners to achieve their full potential.

The Province of Camarines Sur, led by Gov. Lray Villafuerte, also expressed their support through the Educational Assistance Program of the Province. Representatives of the Province have been actively coordinating with the school, as well as the City Government to ensure the successful groundbreaking activity.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the provincial, city, and education sectors, including Vice Mayor Edsel Dimaiwat; Board Members Donna Ann R. Oñate, Regin Oliver “Bruno” N. Oliva, and Jesha Aina “Shai” F. Noble; City Councilors Rodolfo Jeff B. Tino, Katherine Dominique C. Lagrimas, Dandreb N. Abonite, Jessie DV. Abonite Jr., Melnan R. Murallo-Asanza, and Roseller Y. Orolfo.

Also present were Virgilio S. Puso, School Principal I; Maria Magnolia F. Brioso, CESO VI, Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent of SDO-Iriga City, and other DepEd Division Officials; Engr. Rudy L. Tuyay III, DepEd Engineer; Hon. Vicente M. Lagatic, Barangay Captain of Salvacion, and other barangay Officials; while Rev. Fr. Tito Oliva led the blessing of the project.

As Iriga City Science High School celebrated its second year, the groundbreaking ceremony serves the realization of a shared vision among the LGU, DepEd, and the community to nurture future scientists, innovators, and leaders.

With sustained government support, expanding educational investments, and a permanent campus now underway, Iriga City continues to strengthen its commitment to ensure that every deserving learner has access to quality education, proving that the city is not only building classrooms but also building brighter futures.
