Iriga City took another significant step toward becoming a digitally enabled city with the official launch of Paleng-QR Ph Plus on August 19, 2026, at the Iriga Sport Center in Sta. Cruz Sur, promoting faster, safer, and more convenient digital payment transactions among businesses, vendors, and residents. Carrying the theme “GO R.E.X.! – Reliable and EXpress Digital Payments with Paleng-QR Ph!”, the initiative aims to encourage the use of QR-based and e-wallet payments as a practical alternative to cash transactions.
In his message, Mayor Wilfredo Rex C. Oliva highlighted the city’s continuing transition toward digitalization, citing the development of government services that can now be accessed through the internet. He noted that digital transactions can make government and business processes more convenient while also reducing the need for people to carry large amounts of cash, as payments can increasingly be made through e-wallets and other digital platforms.
The event was made possible through the efforts of the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIPO), headed by Ms. Amor Soneja-Auro, in collaboration with national government agencies, financial institutions, and business organizations.
Among those present during the event were DILG Camarines Sur Provincial Director Ray B. Caceres, represented by Maria Teresa D. Olos, LGOO VII, DILG Camarines Sur; DICT OIC-Regional Director Dir. Christian Roy N. Melad; DTI Camarines Sur Provincial Director Jay Percival S. Ablan, represented by Engr. Senen Emmanuel S. Malaya, Trade Industry Development Analyst; and BSP South Luzon Regional Office Acting Area Director Rhoel A. Guarin.
Also in attendance were Vice Mayor Edsel S. Dimaiwat and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, along with representatives from the business sector and participating financial service providers.
The launch also featured a Financial Education Seminar conducted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – South Luzon, as well as booths from participating financial service providers, including BDO Unibank, Development Bank of the Philippines, BPI Direct BanKo, G-Xchange Inc. (GCash), Camalig Bank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Land Bank of the Philippines, Maya Philippines, Philippine National Bank, and Metropolitan Bank, Trust Company,Bankers Association of Camarines Sur Inc.-(BACSI) and Bangko sentral ng Pilipinas -south luzon.
The initiative reinforces Iriga City’s commitment to digital financial inclusion, improved public service delivery, and a more accessible and cashless local economy, bringing digital technology closer to the everyday transactions of Irigueños.
