The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, through the Provincial Health Office, marked the National Safe Motherhood Week with a full-day celebration at Fuerte CamSur Sport Complex — bringing free, quality health services directly to expectant mothers in the province.

Held on May 8, 2026, and guided by the theme “Kalidad na pangangalaga sa Ina, Kalusugan ng sanggol may garantiya,” the event gathered pregnant women from the municipalities of Pili, Ocampo, Minalabac, Milaor, and Baao for a day of care, education, and community.

Free services were made available on-site including PhilHealth Yakap registration, prenatal checkups, ultrasound, laboratory tests, dental care, maternal supplements, and prenatal vitamins. Health education booths on HIV counseling, newborn and hearing screening, family planning, infant immunization, and oral health ensured mothers left not just cared for, but better informed. The DOH also distributed Buntis and Newborn Kits with maternity pads, hygiene essentials, and basic newborn clothing.

With Governor Lray Villafuerte’s continued support for the province’s health programs, initiatives like this reflect the Provincial Government’s commitment to making maternal and child health accessible, especially for those who need it most.

Among those served was 21-year-old Gina Acabado, a first-time mom from Hibago, Ocampo.

“Tig-avail ko ining libreng ultrasound, laboratory, supplements, and checkup ta si igagastos ko para digdi, idagdag ko na lang para sa pag-aki ko. [Kaya] dakulaon po talagang tabang ini para sako,” she shared, pointing that the money she saved she can now set aside for her delivery.

For Gina, the health education sessions were equally valuable, giving her the confidence to care for her baby girl from pregnancy through birth and beyond.
