Strengthening knowledge-sharing, innovation, and livelihood opportunities in the fisheries sector, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Bicol showcased its aquaculture initiatives and successful fisheries enterprises during the Fisheries Day celebration of the 9th Bicol Agri Summit held on June 20, 2026 at The Atrium, Robinsons Naga.

Through its partners, valuable insights on premium catfish production were shared, along with the success stories of fisheries enterprises supported under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Phase II Program. The activity served as a platform to highlight sustainable aquaculture practices and demonstrate how improved technologies, proper management, and enterprise development can help increase the income and strengthen the livelihoods of fisherfolk communities.

Meanwhile, the fisheries entrepreneurs and MSMEs generated a total sales amount of Php 484,632 during the four-day Agri Summit, highlighting the growing market potential of locally produced fisheries products and the importance of providing platforms where fisherfolk can promote and expand their businesses.

BFAR Bicol’s participation in the summit highlights its commitment to empowering fisherfolk through knowledge-sharing, technical support, and innovative aquaculture initiatives that promote sustainable fisheries and livelihood development across the region. The success of the fisheries enterprises showcased during the event reflects the positive impact of providing organized fisherfolk groups with the necessary assistance and opportunities to transform their products into market-ready ventures. These initiatives demonstrate how community-based fisheries enterprises can grow into sustainable sources of income while contributing to food security and the continued growth of the fisheries sector.
