The Police Regional Office 5 (PRO 5) continues to strengthen its campaign against loose and illegally possessed firearms as part of its commitment to maintaining peace, order, and public safety throughout the Bicol Region.
For the period covering June 15 to 21, 2026, PRO 5 successfully recovered a total of 37 assorted firearms through 35 police operations conducted. These operations also led to the arrest of nine (9) individuals for violations of firearm laws and other related offenses.
Of the total firearms recovered, nine (9) were confiscated during law enforcement operations, twenty-one (21) were voluntarily surrendered, while seven (7) were turned over to police authorities for safekeeping. The recoveries were made through various police interventions, including responses to incidents requiring police assistance, implementation of search warrants, anti-illegal drug operations, service of warrants of arrest, checkpoints, and other anti-criminality initiatives.
The campaign against loose firearms remains one of the cornerstone programs of PRO 5 in preventing crimes and protecting communities from violence. Firearms that remain unregistered, undocumented, or unlawfully possessed pose significant risks to public safety, as they can be used in the commission of crimes.
The recovery of these 37 firearms represents more than just the removal of weapons from circulation. “The presence of loose firearms in our communities remains a serious security concern. These weapons have the potential to be used in various criminal activities and violent incidents that can endanger lives and undermine public safety. Through our intensified campaign, we are not only enforcing the law but also preventing crimes before they happen. Every firearm recovered is a potential threat neutralized, a crime prevented, and a life protected,” PBGEN Miranda said.
The Regional Director further emphasized that the success of the campaign is the result of the combined efforts of police units, local government officials, force multipliers, and law-abiding citizens who continue to support law enforcement initiatives.
As PRO 5 sustains its intensified operations against loose firearms, the PBGEN MIRANDA urged the public to remain vigilant and actively cooperate with authorities by reporting individuals possessing undocumented firearms and other suspicious activities in their communities.
