A total of 3,445 senior citizens from Iriga City received their social pension during a successful three-day payout activity held from June 2 to 4, 2025, at the Iriga City Sports Center, Sta. Cruz Sur.
The initiative was spearheaded by the City Government of Iriga under the leadership of Mayor Rex C. Oliva, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) headed by Ms. Maridel Verrosa, in close coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region V. Representing the regional office was Ms. Julie Ann B. Osabel, Project Development Officer I and focal person for the Social Pension Program.
The social pension program provides much-needed financial assistance to indigent senior citizens to help them meet their daily needs, reinforcing the city’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its elderly constituents.
Alongside the pension payout, representatives from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) facilitated on-site registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). The initiative aimed to assist unregistered seniors in securing their National ID — which will become a key requirement for continued eligibility in the social pension program beginning next year.
This synchronized effort underscores the city’s dedication to responsive public service delivery, especially to vulnerable sectors such as the elderly.
