To make more learning resources available through a free video-sharing website, the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) of the Department of Education – Cordillera Administrative Region (DepEd-CAR) has launched its official YouTube channel last August 26.
Dubbed as DamiKnow, the channel is in support to the blended distance learning delivery in the region and will serve as an access point and repository of locally developed and contextualized learning resources where learners, parents and teachers can view and download supplementary materials to be used online or offline.
CLMD Chief Carmel F. Meris said that the channel aside from being an avenue for knowledge sharing shall also showcase the talents of DepEd CAR personnel in the production of quality assured videos, multimedia presentations, audiobook and other materials that would also advocate and preserve the educational indigenous knowledge and practices in the region.
“The name, DamiKnow, was conceptualized as it is seen that our region has a bountiful resource of human ingenuity, skills, and values and at the same time it emphasizes the importance of sharing and gaining such knowledge, skills, and values,” added Meris.
Alongside the launching, the Office released Regional Memorandum No. 255, series 2020 that outlines the guidelines and overview of said YouTube channel. All are encouraged to subscribe to the channel.
Meanwhile, on the same event, DepEd CAR formally sealed its partnership with Tata Consultancy Services Incorporated (TCS- Philippines), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions for their GoIT Program.
The program is designed to engage learners and empower them to be digital innovators of tomorrow and gain confidence in taking Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Information Technology (STEM-IT) related courses.
“This partnership comes very timely as we encourage our learners to be more involved and choose careers in line with Science, Math, Engineering and Technology especially if we want our Cordilleran learners to be more globally competitive and positive contributors to their communities,” said Regional Director May B. Eclar during the virtual signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with officials from TCS Philippines such as Country Head Shiju Varghese.
Varghese expressed his gratitude of the partnership opportunity as they plan to expand their GoIT program nationwide.
“It is an honor to partner with you in this endeavor that would lead to making the Philippines one of the IT destinations in South East Asia and we are glad to start it here in the Cordillera region,” added Varghese.
According to the firm’s website, the Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) is an Indian multinational information technology services and consulting company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is a subsidiary of the Tata Group and operates in 149 locations across 46 countries including Philippines.
As of press time, priming for teacher-facilitators is ongoing and training for grade 10 learners will start on October 2020 until April of 2021.
On the other hand, the Cordillera Regional Science High School in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet was chosen as pilot school and training of their learners is set on September 23 to 25. (Georaloy Palao-ay with reports from Kaye Shaira Dizon)
