Davao de Oro IP’s open their first savings account at LBP

Davao de Oro Province:  The Matigsalog Tribe in Sitio Side 4, Mangayon, Compostela, Davao de Oro open their first saving’s account in Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) Nabunturan Branch on February 26, 2020.

It is part of their economic independence and way to transact any businesses from their farm produce.

Lorenzo G. Macapili, Regional Director of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) spearheaded the Initial Skills Training Program under the Poverty Reduction Livelihood and Employment Clusterof the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC).

Among the topic discussed is the proper procedures on how to plant banana effectively. It is to ensure the quality assurance of farm products and extend financial assistance to IP communities for farm development.

Macapili added that there are 12 pilot areas of the Amoma Ug Giya Alang sa Kahamugaway”  (AGAK) Center, and this community is already included and presented to Secretary Isidro Lapeña, Director General of TESDA together with Secretary Allen Capuyan, Chairman of the National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP) last week in Manila.

The AGAK Center aims to uplift the situation of our indigenous communities by providing them with access to everyday necessities such as electricity, communication and even support for economic activities.

“We will review what are the necessary skills training program needed by the IP’s to help them establish and utilize a better livelihood gains,” said Macapili.

Cluster Leader of Tribal named Sirano Mambay-an, shown his great gratitude towards the agencies of the government in accordance to its program implemented to IPs.

“The interventions will have to be continuously provided by both Provincial Government and the National Government Agencies, under the whole-of-nation approach of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order Number (EO) 70,” Macapili added.

“Less meeting, more actions in the community,” the regional director said.
