Yesterday, April 30, 2020, Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy will decide on whether to continue with the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or to shift to General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

Governor Uy posted on Tuesday evening his statement after the release of Resolution No. 29 of the National Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) noting the province of Davao de Oro is recommended for a GCQ.

It can be recalled that on April 24, the national IATF also recommended that Davao de Oro be placed under ECQ but with a note ‘for re-checking.’ The said declaration triggered the decision of the governor to extend ECQ until May 15, which was also recommended by the IATF, and cancelled his previous pronouncement to have a Modify Community Quarantine.

The Governor said that he will meet and consult with the task force on April 30 on what will be the kind of community quarantine that the province will implement starting May 1, 2020.

“Kung ako lang, aduna nako’y desisyon pero mas maayong sigurong paminawon nako mong tanan, ang mga eksperto, ug daghan pang tao para mauyunan sa tanan ang sunod nato lakang,” he said.

In Subject B of the IATF Resolution No. 29, it states that the provincial governor shall be authorized to impose enhanced community quarantine in component cities, municipalities, and barangays upon the concurrence of the regional inter-agency task group.

“Tungod kini kay gatuo usab sila nga kita mismo ang nakabalo sa atong kahimtang ug ang saktong mga tawo nga magbuot asa ta padulong. Ato usab ginakonsidera ang siyentipikong ebidensya.”

The chief executive also emphasized that the decision to extend or shift will greatly impact the lives of the residents in the province.

“We want this to be a right and collective decision because what is at stake here is our lives, health, well-being, safety, security, and livelihood,” he said.

The province started implementing a Community Quarantine on March 19. After its expiration, the CQ was escalated to ECQ on April 7 up to 19; it was then extended up to April 26, and further extended up to May 15, as per latest proclamation of the governor. However, with the new resolution from the IATF, a new decision will be come up on April 30.

“Mangayo ko sa pagsabot ninyong tanan tungod kay dili sad namo gustong ibutang sa risgo ang kinabuhi natong tanan. Kinabuhi ang atong ginaistoryahan ug sama sa akong giingon kaniadto, dili namo mapasaylo ang among mga kaugalingon kung aduna’y mahitabong dili maayo kaninyo.”

The governor also encouraged the public to voice out their comments through leaving a message in his or the province’s Facebook pages and accounts.

“Ayaw kamo kahadlok musulti sa inyong gipangbati. Hangtod sa makaya nato, paminawon, basahon, ug paningkamotan natong tubagon.”

He reminded the public to follow health protocols such as social distancing, hand washing, staying at home, and listening and reading legitimate information. The governor also asked the public to pray, saying ‘salig ta sa Ginoo nga mao’y nagagiya ug gaproktekta sa ato.’ (PIA 11, Michael Uy)
