Customs seizes P15.7-M worth of ecstasy hidden in parcels

Bureau of Customs agents seized three parcels containing the party drugs ecstacy worth of P15.7 million during a sting operation at a postal office in Quezon City.

The Customs agents said they intercepted the shipment in a joint operations with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG).

They nabbed the claimants of the three packages, and were identified by the customs agents as Rowena Canapit and  Michael De Guzman.

The duo presented an authorization letter from the consignee, a certain Glory Joy Buzeta, in claiming the subject packages at around 1:00 p.m. in Quezon City Postal Office. 

Records show that the parcels were shipped by a certain “Agner Buzeta” and “Victor Martis” from the Netherlands and the contents declared as “Hand Bag & Shoes”, “Baby Clothes” and “Clothes”. 

The seized tablets were discovered when the x-ray images thereof yielded suspicious items, prompting the Customs Examiner to conduct 100 percent physical examination of the subject packages. 

The party drugs were found concealed in the false compartment of each side of the subject packages.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said the claimants face possible prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to Section 1401 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
