PROFESSOR Oscar Yoshihiro “Oskie” Santelices, a former national table tennis and University of the Philippines (UP) athlete, passed away on Monday at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19 infection.
He was 59.
Santelices, also a former secretary general of the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines, served more than 20 years as UP’s table tennis coach and was honored one of the state school’s greatest athletes in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 80.
Oskie also played table tennis for University of Santo Tomas with his brother Tacky during the 1980s.
He is survived by his wife Lourdes Gwen Santelices and sons Jose Lorenzo Santelices and Juan Miguel Santelices.
