AFP detail 117 military athletes to PSC

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) approved the detailed service (DS) order of 117 of its personnel to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

These military personnel are athletes and coaches who will vie or qualify for the Tokyo Olympics and train for the 31st Hanoi Southeast Asian Games. 

These AFP personnel are serving as athletes and coaches in 22 sports—athletics (13), badminton (2), baseball (6), basketball (4), boxing (8), cycling (9), judo (2), kurash (1), lawn bowls (5), muay (3), obstacle course (1), rowing (6), sailing (5), sambo (1), sepak takraw (10), softball (7), swimming (6), table tennis (2), triathlon (2), weightlifting (6), wrestling (12) and para sports (6).

PSC Chairman William Ramirez thanked Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana through the Office of the Chief of Special Service for the DS order.

“The PSC, Philippine Olympic Committee and the national sports associations are grateful for the DS orders. Now, the military athletes can train in full throttle,” Ramirez told the Hour program on Radyo Pilipinas Dos. 

There are 58 military athletes in the Air Force, 19 in the Army and 40 serving the Navy. 

The AFP, PSC, POC and Philippine Paralympic Committee will formally sign a memorandum of agreement on the “management, development and training of identified and potential soldier-athletes” on May 20.
