CGO Iriga commemorates 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan

The City Government of Iriga, through the Iriga Culture, Heritage, Arts, and Tourism Office (I-CHAT), in collaboration with the Philippine National Police – Iriga City, held a simple yet meaningful ceremony to commemorate the 82nd “Araw ng Kagitingan” (Day of Valor) at the Iriga City Veteran’s Park. With the theme “Pagpaparangal sa Kagitingan ng mga Beterano: Saligan para sa Nagkakaisang Pilipino,” this day is dedicated to honoring the bravery of Filipino and American soldiers who fought against the Japanese during World War II.

Mayor Rex C. Oliva, Vice Mayor Edsel S. Dimaiwat, City Councilors Hon. Dandreb N. Abonite, Hon. Jessie DV. Abonite, Jr., Hon. Dessa Mare P. Lontayao, PNP-Iriga Acting Chief of Police LtCol Jabesh N. Napolis, and other dignitaries led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of the Fallen Martyrs, offering a solemn tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

During his speech, Mayor Rex referred to all present as “grateful inheritors of the past, protagonists of the present, and molders of the future.” This reminder captures the shared responsibility we hold to honor the sacrifices of the past, face the challenges of today, and shape a brighter tomorrow for our community.

The Araw ng Kagitingan serves as a reminder that if we do not learn from history, we are destined to repeat it. Therefore, it is important to reflect on and comprehend our past to pave the way for a better future. The core values of the people of Iriga, including generosity and solidarity, are fundamental in helping our nation.

We extend our heartfelt salute to the brave heroes of the past and present who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom.
