Numerous power consumers here continue to observe voltage fluctuations when using computers and other electrical appliances as energy consumption rises this summer.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced Wednesday that this is due to intermittent Renewable Energy (RE) sources whose output fluctuates depending on natural conditions.

“Voltage fluctuations occur when voltage levels rise above or fall below normal operating limits,” the NGCP said in a statement.

While renewable energy plants in Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos and Currimao are assessed this summer, NGCP reported lowering RE dispatch to manage fluctuations and ensure system stability.

NGCP asks for public understanding as it works with industry partners to address the issue and ensure transmission system stability. A similar incident occurred in December last year.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte Vice Gov. Matthew Joseph Manotoc on Wednesday assured power consumers that the Ilocos Norte provincial government is working to ease the effects of an impending energy crisis.

“Rest assured that we are on top of it and we are working continuously to address your needs,” Manotoc said in a public announcement.

He reported that the provincial government plans to offer a free shuttle service and to continue livelihood and transportation programs for vulnerable sectors such as utility drivers, students, elderly and farmers.
