The Balay Silangan Reformation Center of the City of Batac, a facility committed to transforming drug offenders into productive, law-abiding citizens, marked the completion of its pioneer batch on July 20.

This inaugural group, consisting of 40 beneficiaries, completed a comprehensive one-month in-house reformation program. The program aimed at equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to positively impact families and communities. The interventions include lectures on anti-illegal drug use, disaster preparedness, fire safety, crop and animal production, and maintaining a lifestyle. The session also included practical demonstrations and exercises. Moreover, the beneficiaries also underwent regular spiritual and social counseling.

After their completion of the in-house program, the beneficiaries will continue to undergo monitored interventions. On July 25, the first half of the group will start to undergo mushroom production training program facilitated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Mayor Albert D. Chua lauded the beneficiaries for their commitment and successful completion of the in-house program. He also acknowledged the significant role of all the partner agencies that shared their time and expertise in the interventions implemented.

The beneficiaries also received various assistance from the city government to sustain their families, as they had to temporarily sacrifice their daily source of living in order to undergo the in-house reformation program. (April Gonzales)
