Baguio: Troops recover guns after clash with NPA in Kalinga

Balbalan, Kalinga – Several high-powered firearms, improvised explosive devices and subversive documents were recovered following an encounter between government troops and suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in in Brgy Mabaca, Balbalan Kalinga on December 12.

Troops of the 50th Infantry Battalion encountered undetermined number of NPA terrorists after responding to information tipped off by the residents

During the clearing operations, the military was able to recover three high-powered firearms, one hand grenade, three improvised explosives devices personal belongings and other pertinent documents at the encounter site.

Among the items seized were two M16 rifles, one M653 rifle.

Based on reports from the ground one of the troops was slightly wounded during the firefight.

A firefight lasted for 5 minutes; after which, the armed group fled in different directions.

MGen Laurence E Mina, Commander of the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army warned the remaining CNTs that the government will make sure that they will pay for their terroristic acts under the full force of the law.

It can be recalled that the residents of Balbalan declared the terrorist Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front and their front organizations as persona non-grata.
