Baguio COVID-19 Cases Spiked Anew

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 cases in this city of Baguio spiked anew with 117 recorded in the past four days.

An additional 52 cases of coronavirus infection were added to the total case count in Baguio Thursday, September 24, 2020.

Twenty six of the cases were determined through expanded testing, 22 through contact tracing, 2 were symptomatic and 2 other reasons.

In its 6 p.m. case bulletin, the Department of Health Cordillera (DOH-CAR) reported the total case count for the city is now at 680.

There are 265 active cases while 404 have recovered and 12 died.

The increase in the number of confirmed cases was due to intensified testing that the local government has implemented since last month.

Due to the new clusters of cases, Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered that the entire Barangay Sto. Nino-Slaughter be placed under hard lockdown effective today until October 4, 2020.

“All persons shall remain in the confines of their homes for the duration of the lockdown except in cases of immediate or emergency medical necessities only.” Mayor Magalong stressed.

Meanwhile from the 1, 283 COVID-19 cases in the entire region, 923 recovered, 16 died and 344 active cases as of yesterday.

Department of Health – Cordillera Director Dr. Ruby Constantino, in an online media presser said that although cases in Cordillera is not yet on alarming level still it is important to remind the people to remain vigilant and be an advocate of the minimum health protocols.
