The figure was the highest single-day tally since the start of the year.

According to the health department, Cordillera has now recorded a total of 377 active cases of Coronavirus disease infections in the entire region as of January 5.

The DOH also reported nine additional fatalities, raising the death toll to 2, 284 in the entire region.

Among the provinces and cities in the region, Baguio has the most number of COVID-19 infected residents with 250 cases followed by its neighbor Benguet with 61 cases.

Due to the rising cases of infection, the city now limits the entry of tourists starting today and those coming from areas under alert level 3 are required to present their negative result of RT-PCR test within 72 hours or negative antigen test result within 24 hours prior to arrival.

Meanwhile, due to the threat of Omicron variant said to be far more contagious than other variant, Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong has appealed to residents, regardless of vaccination status, to use medical-grade face masks like quality surgical types instead of cloth masks for better protection.
