Bacolod City – Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana described zero hog mortalities in Negros Occidental for the 5th straight day, as a “welcome development.”

Lemana, however said that active surveillance of areas affected by swine diseases is a continuing process.

It only indicates that our quick response is effective, she added.

No hog deaths were reported from August 11 to 15, Lemana said.

As of Aug. 15, the Provincial Animal Biosecurity Incident Management Team reported 17,801 pig deaths caused by various swine diseases, including African Swine Fever, in Negros Occidental.

Today, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Lemana will lead the distribution of hog cholera vaccines to local government units in southern Negros, which will be held in Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog.

Of the 70,400 purchased doses of hog cholera vaccines, Lemana said 25,000 doses will be initially distributed to various LGUs.

Lacson and Lemana will also distribute cattle and carabaos to farmers affected by super typhoon Odette in southern Negros, which is a program of the Department of Agriculture. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
