Bacolod City – The city is taking a significant step towards addressing the growing population of stray cats and dogs by introducing the largest local government-operated animal shelter in the country as part of its Rabies Prevention and Control Program, a press release from Bacolod PIO said.

The shelter, to be established in Barangay Granada, has a proposed budget of P10 million and will feature a modern design, an office, multi-purpose hall, and an open space with secure perimeters.

This initiative taken by the administration of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez aims to provide care and a home for stray, lost, abandoned, and abused cats and dogs, with the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 animals.

With the project, Bacolod will not only enhance public health, but also strengthen its commitment to being an animal-friendly city, ensuring the community is safer for both its citizens and animals. (News by BCPIO)
