Bacolod City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the City Veterinary Office through Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to provide supplies to the Bacolod City Dog Pound, such as food for the impounded dogs, water and electrical connection, and other needs for its operations.

The resolution authored by Councilor Celia Matea Flor said there are currently more than 90 impounded dogs and counting, most of which are weak and sickly, under the care of the Bacolod City Pound.

The caretakers have expressed that as much as they would like to provide the best care, their current supplies will not allow it, the resolution said.

Flor, chairperson of the SP Committee on Markets and Slaughterhouse, conducted an ocular visit at the Bacolod City Pound and witnessed the current plight of the impounded dogs, which she described as highly deplorable since it is not clean and its operation is not well within the bounds of the Animal Welfare Act.

There are also several informal settlers within the Bacolod City Pound in Brgy. 35 that the city should look into, Flor added. (Chrysee Semillano via tvds photo by tdg)
