A dog named “Jan-Jan” stole the show during the July 11 graduation and moving up ceremonies at an extension of Codcod Elementary School in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, after being conferred with a medal by teachers of the school.

Edgie Mae Lumawag, who uploaded pictures of Jan Jan in her social media account, said the dog is well-loved by the teachers, who constantly accompanies them from home to school, and vice versa.

Jan-Jan was described by the teachers as their playmate and loyal friend, according to Lumawag.

She added that Jan-Jan provided security to the teachers, from morning until evening.

Barangay Codcod is a remote village in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, which used to be a haven of local insurgents.

Last year, an Army tracking dog also received a Medal of Merit for being part of a series of successful operations against the New People’s Army in Negros Island.
