As part of its commitment to promoting wellness through personal grooming, the City Government of Batac under the leadership of Mayor Albert D. Chua launched the Libreng Gupit Program anew last June 26, 2023. This initiative aims to provide accessible and free hair grooming, extending convenience to communities.

To date, the program has catered to more than 1500 residents after extending free hair grooming in 21 barangays. With 22 barangays left until July 25, more residents are expected to benefit from it most especially that the graduation season has commenced.

Initially conceived as a livelihood support measure for the City of Batac Salon and Barbers Association during the pandemic, the Libreng Gupit sa Barangay program has since become an annual initiative of the city government. According to one of the participating hairdressers, this program has significantly provided additional income for him, making it an eagerly anticipated event each year.

Moreover, a satisfied resident shared that the program brings valuable savings in terms of fuel, money, and time since the services are conveniently located close to their homes. The graduating class of Quiom Elementary School, another beneficiary of Libreng Gupit, expressed their contentment and appreciation for their fresh haircuts as they prepared to march on stage to receive their diplomas.

The program is facilitated by the city government through the Tourism and Events Section. (April Gonzales)
