Records from the Department of Health-6 showed that Bacolod City reached 72.45 percent of its target as November 30, the second day of the national campaign to fast-track the nation’s bid for herd immunity.

On Day One of “Bayanihan Bakunahan” Bacolod administered 29,047 anti-COVID-19 doses, surpassing the daily target of 22,057 set by the DOH for the local government to meet.

This was 131.69 percent compliance, way beyond the goal of the national government for Bacolod.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the sight of thousands of Bacolodnons lining up to get vaccinated in different sites was overwhelming, adding that there appears to be a turnaround from the earlier hesitancy against the COVID vaccine as noted by the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force and the COVaC.

Leonardia attributed the shift on the people’s interest to get jabbed to the consistent information and education campaign mounted by the local government through the EOC.

Bacolod opened 42 vaccination centers for the three-day national drive.

Some 19, 382 residents were inoculated on Day Two, keeping Bacolod on top of the leaderboard.

Behind Bacolod were Guimaras (49.73 percent), Antique (27.58 percent), Iloilo Province (25.36 percent), Negros Occidental (24.68 percent), Capiz (24.25 percent) and Aklan (21.00 percent).

Data for Day Three was not yet available as of press deadline.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental remains on top of the list of the three-day National Vaccination Day among all provinces and highly-urbanized cities in Western Visayas, in terms of vaccinated individuals.

The Department of Health Vaccination Operations Center reported yesterday that Negros Occidental vaccinated 68,911 persons on November 29 and 58,662 more on the 30th, exceeding its target of 50,000 individuals to be inoculated per day.

On Day 1, Negros Occidental achieved 137.82 percent accomplishment and 117.32 percent on Day 2. The figure for Day 3 is not available as of press time.

Over two consecutive days, Negros Occidental vaccinated 127,573 individuals, registering an 85.05 percent accomplishment, with Iloilo province trailing behind with 89,909 individuals vaccinated, followed by highly-urbanized Bacolod City – 47,994, Capiz – 32,395, Antique – 31,780, Aklan -17,614, Guimaras -14, 472 and Iloilo City – 11,393.

Diaz congratulated the 31 local governments units of Negros Occidental, especially their respective City and Municipal Health Offices, as well as the Provincial Health Office for a job well done.

Let’s continue this campaign, until we reach the 70 percent vaccination of our people in Negros Occidental, he added.

As of November 30, COVID-19 active cases in Negros Occidental further went down further to 423, from its peak of more than 4,400 in October. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star, photo courtesy of Bacolod City Public Information Office)
