Bacolod City – The New People’s Army Apolinario Gatmaitan Command laughed off the military’s target to recommend the declaration of Negros Island as “insurgency free” by the 1st quarter of next year.
In a statement, rebel group spokesman Ka Maoce Legislador alleged that the 3rd Infantry Division is only capable of “warmongering and crimes,” adding that its target is “another failed deadline” and a “prolonged militarization outbreak.”
Legislador further claimed in a statement that Maj. Gen. Marion Sison is “just sugarcoating their inability to accomplish their pipe dream deadline of defeating the NPA in Negros.”
The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division operating in Western and Central Visayas has reported the dismantling of four of five NPA guerilla fronts in Negros Island.
Military records indicated that almost all top leaders of KR-NCBS have been neutralized, among them Rogelio Posadas, secretary of KR- NBCS, Romeo Nanta, alias Ka Juaning, regional commander of the NPA Apolinario Gatmaitan Command, in Negros Island, and seven others who were killed in gunbattles this year, from January until now.
Records of the 3ID indicated that a total of 102 NPA members have been either killed in encounters, captured, or surrendered, with 142 firearms recovered in Western and Central Visayas, from January this year, to date.
Legislador said claimed that “neutralizing leaders” is the 3ID’s version of the cold-blooded murders of hors de combat revolutionaries like NDFP peace consultants Rogelio Posadas and Ericson Acosta, and AGC-NPA spokesperson Ka Juanito Magbanua (Romeo Nanta).
