Bacolod City – The activation of the Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region has been tentatively scheduled for March 27.
However, the incoming regional director PRO – NIR is yet to be named by Camp Crame.
With its activation, the provincial police offices of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor, as well as the Bacolod City Police Office, will fall under its supervision.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo disclosed in previous months that some police personnel from the Area Police Command might be transferred to the PRO NIR.
In June last year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law RA 12000, which led to the establishment of the NIR administrative region comprising Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor and highly urbanized Bacolod City.
In 2017, PRO-18 was deactivated following the abolition of the NIR, which was initially established through an executive order by the late President Benigno Aquino III.
NIR was abolished by his successor, then President Rodrigo Duterte. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds)
