Bacolod City – Thirty of 31 component cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental have functional Peace and Order Councils (POCs) for the year 2022.

Only the town of Calatrava, where insurgency-related incidents usually take place among the local government units in northern Negros over the past several months, has not been mentioned in the list of LGUs with functional POC of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The POC Performance Audit is an annual assessment conducted by DILG which aims to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the POCs in promoting and maintaining security and public safety.

It also aims to identify the innovations conducted and initiated by the POCs and their POC Secretariats, determine the possible interventions and improvement strategies, and create a platform for evaluating, assessing, and sharing best practices between and among POCs and POC Secretariat.

The functional POCs in Negros Occidental includes that of the provincial government, cities of Bago, Cadiz, Escalante, Kabankalan, Himamaylan La Carlota, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, Talisay, Victorias and Sipalay, as well as municipalities of San Enrique, Cauayan, Hinigaran, Hinobaan, Toboso, La Castellana, EB Magalona, Binalbagan, Don Salvador Benedicto, Valladolid, Candoni, Ilog, Isabela, Manapla, Moises Padilla, Pontevedra, Pulupandan and Murcia.

“This is a testament that with dedication and collaboration, we make peace in our communities happen,” the DILG said in a statement. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
