Bacolod City – The Charter Change signature campaign appears to continue to snowball in Negros Occidental, as the Commission on Election expects the submission of more signed petitions from the 5th district of Negros Occidental.
The 5th district is composed of Hinigaran, Binalbagan, La Castellana, Isabela, Moises Padilla and Himamaylan City.
As of January 19, a total of 182,447 signatures were gathered by the proponents from 15 local government units in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, pushing for amendments to the 1987 Constitution.
Provincial Election Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said they can only monitor the signature campaign as of this time, as they await orders from their national office on what to do with the submitted signed petitions.
“If someone files a formal petition with the Commission that would be the time we could validate the signatures,” he added.
The other signatures came from Calatrava, Escalante City, San Carlos City, Manapla, Sagay City, Murcia, Silay City, Talisay City, Bago City, La Carlota City, Pontevedra, Cauayan, IIog and Sipalay City. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
