Bacolod: 8 Focus Crimes in NegOcc down by 101 incidents

Bacolod City – The 8 Focus Crimes in Negros Occidental for last year reduced by 101 incidents, compared to 2022, with murder cases topping the crimes committed, according to the year end report of the Provincial Police Office.

The 8 Focus Crimes, also known as index crimes, are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft and motorcycle theft.

NOCPPO logged 926 incidents last year, compared to 1,027 incidents in 2022.

Murder cases topped the crimes committed at 276, followed by homicide – 197, physical injuries – 194, theft – 142, robbery – 54, rape – 46, carnapping – 16, and one incident of motorcycle theft, in 2023.

Homicide cases were also up by 39 incidents last year, compared to 2022, the report added.

Vehicular collisions also decreased by 110 incidents, or 1,311 in 2022, compared to 1,221 incidents last year, NOCPPO reports further showed.

The increase in non-index crimes, or implementation of special laws, from 2,122 in 2022, to 2,199 last year was attributed by NOCPPO to intensified Police Initiated Operations. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
