Bacolod: 72,446 apply for voters’ registration in NIR – Comelec

    The applications for voters’ registration in Negros Island Region (NIR) has reached 72,446, as of January 17, according to the Commission on Elections.

    Of the number, Comelec processed 49,267 applications in Negros Occidental, 22,190 for Negros Oriental, and 989 in Siquijor.

    The voters’ registration period resumed for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) last October 20 and will run until May 18 this year.

    Two hundred ninety seven voters availed of the Register Anywhere Program (RAP) of the Comelec, of which 226 were in Dumaguete City and 71 in highly urbanized Bacolod City.

    Based on the poll body’s latest data, as of December 21 last year, the total number of applications received by Comelec nationwide is 1,020,694.

    Of the number, a total of 790,028 are applying to vote in the village polls, while a total of 235,274 are looking to become youth voters.

    The Comelec also received a total of 278,388 applications as new registrants, aged 18 years and above.

    It recorded a total of 294,298 individuals who have applied for transfer from other city/municipality; while 63,004 people applied for transfer within the same city/municipality; and 41,140 are looking to reactivate their registration.

    As for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters, or those aged 15 to 17 years, a total of 230,666 applications for registration have been received.

    The Comelec also received 963 applications for transfer from other city/municipality among SK voters; 318 applications for transfer within the same city/municipality; and 3,327 for correction of entries.
