Davao City – At 7:00 AM last Tuesday (March 30) a Philippine Airlines aircraft brought 12 boxes containing 7,200 doses of Coronavac COVID-19 vaccines.
At around 7:17 am the vaccines were loaded to the cold storage van and transported to the Department of Health-XI office for storage.
The Coronavac vaccines will be used to inoculate the remaining healthcare workers in the Davao Region. These vaccines will be distributed to the different provinces in Davao.
“Kani pa to siya sa A1 group na wala pa nabakunahan (This is for the A1 group that has yet to be vaccinated),” Department of Health-XI Regional Director Dr. Anabelle P. Yumang said.
The A1 group of healthcare workers refers to frontline workers in health facilities both private and public. These include medical professionals and non-professionals like nursing aides, janitors, barangay health workers and students serving in these health facilities.
“But so far sa kagahapon nato na report duna na tay 47% sa atoang mga healthcare workers o sa A1 group ug kung atong basehan sa consumption rate naa na tay 98% sa atong bakuna na gihatag sa Davao Region na naconsume (In our yesterday’s report we have 47% of our healthcare workers or in the A1 group and if basing on our consumption rate we have 98% of the vaccines given in the Davao Region which has been consumed),” the DOH-XI Regional Director said.
RD Yumang said the 7,200 vials were part of the 400,000 Coronavac vaccines donated by China and that arrived in the country last March 24.
More COVID-19 vaccines are expected to arrive, last Monday (March 29) one million doses of Coronavac vaccines have arrived in Manila from China. These vaccines are the first batch of vaccines which were purchased by the country as the earlier deliveries were donations.
