The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has dispatched three additional medical teams here to help in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Colonel Michael Samson, deputy brigade commander of Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), along with Captain Kelvin Bayaban, Civil Military Operations officer of 303rd IBde welcomed the team at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City recently.

The additional AFP medical teams headed by Captain Romuel Rabara were previously deployed to Cebu for the same purpose.

With their deployment here, they will augment the frontline medical workers of Bacolod, starting Friday, according to the 303rd IBde.

They will help the health system capacity of the city amid the rising number of COVID cases here.

Two medical teams will be deployed at the Riverside Medical Center and the other team will be dispatched to the Queen of Mercy Hospital.

They will take over the first two AFP medical teams headed by Captain Liza Dorao, whose tour of duty here ended last month.

Meanwhile, Samson expressed his gratitude to the commander of AFP’s Central Command for extending additional military doctors to support Bacolod and Negros Occidental to boost the efforts in the COVID fight.

As of September 30, Bacolod now has 4,025 COVID cases, including 2,775 recoveries, 81 deaths, and 1,169 active cases. (Glazyl Masculino via The Daily Guardian (TDG), photo by TDG)
