Mr. Ricardo D. Ragas, Branch Manager of Standard Insurance in Surigao City assumed the leadership of Surigao’s oldest Rotary International organization, the Rotary Club of Surigao City.
Founded in 1975 with the late Charter President Cruz S. Yuipco Jr., Ragas cried in his acceptance speech last night saying he missed his spouse as the event yesterday was also their 12th wedding anniversary. Because of health protocol implemented, Febelyn who is now in Davao Oriental missed the occasion. Ragas hails from Cagwait, Surigao del Sur and worked for 17 years in the company and 3 years ago he was assigned at Surigao Branch.
In his message Ragas said “It is indeed a rare privilege and opportunity to lead the Rotary Club of Surigao City. There were times I was reluctant to accept the position with the huge task ahead. You need commitment and determination to be in this position.”
Ragas dreamed to be a Rotarian and now it’s a bonus, he became President. This year’s theme Rotary Opens Opportunities is a great challenge for all Rotarians as the world is facing the CoViD-19 global pandemic.
Outgoing President Louise Y. Chua delivered his valedictory address citing the accomplishments of his term in 2019-2020.
The club’s membership is added by Engr. Allan Paqueo who was inducted and admitted last night. District 3860 Governor Rodel Reizl S. Reyes conveyed his message through a video shown on the LED screen.
The 45th Induction and Turnover Ceremonies was held at PanSohoton Hall in Gateway Hotel. Assistamt Governor Arturo Cruje was the Inducting Officer with the presence of Rotarians from RC Metro Surigao, RC Surigao Midtown Jewels, RC Central Surigao and Police Lieutenant Colonel Christian Rafols II who is also a Rotarian from Uptown Butuan. The officers and members of Junior Chamber International Nickel and Wensie Surigao also witnessed the turnover ceremonies.
