The Police Regional Office IX announced that twenty five (25) Barangays in the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay and fifteen (15) Barangays in Zamboanga del Sur were declared as drug-cleared Barangays by the Regional Oversight Committee following their separate ceremonial declaration program held at Municipal Hall, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay on August 24, 2020 and Subanen Hall, Provincial Government Complex, Dao, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur on August 25, 2020.Â
P/B.Gen Jesus D. Cambay, Jr., BGEN. Police Regional Director, PRO IX named the declared ‘drug-cleared’ barangays in Zamboanga del Sur as Bag-ong Oslob, Cabilinan, Inasagan, Kauswagan, and Balintawak in Aurora Municipality; Baluno and Tipange in Dimataling Municipality; Sebucao, Anonang and Bibilik in Dumalinao Municipality; Datagan in Guipos Municipality; Payag, Tubo-pait and Mabuhay in San Pablo Municipality.Â
He added that among the barangays that were also declared as drug cleared in Zamboanga Sibugay were Barangay Sto Nino and Alegria of Alicia Municipality; Pamitayan of Buug Municipality; Calais, Looc-Sapi, Bateria, Sta Maria, Kahayagan of Olutanga Municipality; Dalama, Nanan, Balogo, Katipunan, Upper Sumilong and Balian of Payao Municipality; Logpond and Poblacion of Siay Municipality; Aurora, Bolingan, Bualan and Sagay of Talusan Municipality; Dipala of Kabasalan Municipality and Looc Labuan, Linguisan, Batungan and Taglibas of Tungawan Municipality.Â
Some of the personalities who attended the declaration ceremony were Governor Victor J. Yu, Governor, Province of Zamboanga Del Sur; Dir. Emerson Margate, Chairman, Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Operations; PMAJ. PAUL CORTEZ of Regional Operation Management Division, PRO IX; Director Paisal O Abutazil, CESO III, Regional Director of DILG IX and DOH representative. Also in attendance during the ceremony were Municipal Mayors of the above-mentioned municipalities, MADAC and BADAC members of the above-mentioned municipalities and their respective Chiefs of Police.
Based on the data from the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Operations, Zamboanga del Sur has 6 municipalities with 358 barangays declared as drug cleared; Zamboanga Sibugay has 118 barangays with none municipality drug cleared; Zamboanga del Norte with 4 municipalities (359 barangays) drug cleared; Zamboanga City with 12 barangays cleared and Isabela City with 9 barangays cleared.Â
The Regional Oversight Committee, which is led by the PDEA, is composed of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH) and local government units.
