An Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader was arrested by combined elements of Regional Intelligence Unit 9, PNP Intelligence Group (lead unit); Regional Intelligence Division 9; RMFB9; Regional Maritime Unit 9; PCTC-Western Mindanao Field Office; Mabuhay MPS; Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office – Intel Unit and 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company during the law enforcement operation at Brgy. Caliran, Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay at about 5:30 AM of August 26, 2020
P/BGen. Jesus D. Cambay, Jr, Regional Director, PRO IX identified the arrested ASG member as Jamiul Nassalon a.k.a @Ustad Amih/@Abu Harris/@Tii/@Abu Janar/@Jamih (ASG/ATG Sub-Leader (PSR Listed)), 41 years old, married, Seaweed farmer, and a resident of Sitio Kasanyangan, Brgy. Caliran, Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Jamiul Nassalon was arrested by virtue of Warrant of Arrest for the crimes of Serious Illegal Detention With Ransom under Criminal Case Number 24270 issued by Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 16, 9th Judicial Region, Zamboanga City with no bail recommended; Criminal Case Number 37589 for the crime of Multiple Attempted Murder issued by Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 32, 9th Judicial Region, Zamboanga City with recommended bail amounting to One Hundred Twenty Thousand (₱ 120,000.00) peso and Criminal Case Number 34968 for the crime of Attempted Murder issued by Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 32, 9th Judicial Region, Zamboanga City with no bail recommended.
He was tagged as the mastermind in the kidnapping incident and beheading of kidnap victim identified as Doroteo Gonzales in 2009 at Brgy. Buenavista, Zamboanga City.
He is involved in the killing/massacre of 8 fishermen in Siromon Waters, Brgy. Dita, Zamboanga City on January 9, 2017 and strafing of Rural Bus in KM-57, Barangay Buenavista, Zamboanga City on February 14, 2017. He is also involved in the Bus terminal bombing in Guiwan, Zamboanga City in 2012.
Jamiul Nassalon’s current activities is to organized and reorganized his former cahoots to create another terroristic activities within the Zamboanga Peninsula AOR which could have succeeded if not timely arrested by the security forces.
The arrested ASG Sub-Leader is now under the custody of Regional Intelligence Unit 9, PNP Intelligence Group prior turn-over to the issuing courts.
P/BGen. Cambay, Jr. said “We have been in our intensified campaign against personalities who are identified to be engaged in terrorist group including persons who are in cahoots with them”
“We do not want that they will take advantage of this pandemic when our personnel are preoccupied with enforcement of our minimum health protocol issues and overlook the security concern in Zamboanga Peninsula”, he added.
P/BGen. Cambay, Jr. commended the security forces primarily led by the intelligence community under this command who responded to our advocacy to thwart any terroristic plans and continue to pursue so that we expect more similar laudable accomplishment to follow.
