₱44.19M Road Project Breaks Ground For Benguet Farmers

Kibungan, Benguet — A ₱ 44.19 million road project that will benefit the vegetable farmers and residents of Madaymen and the neighboring municipalities is set to get off the ground with the laying of capsule and the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

The project called the Upgrading and Improvement of Halsema-Madaymen Provincial Road Phase III project in Kibungan, Benguet aims to improve mobility, connectivity of road networks, and economic development in LGUs.

Benguet Governor Dr. Melchor Diclas and Kibungan Mayor Cesar Molitas led the ground-breaking ceremony of the Road Upgrading and Improvement funded by the Department of the Local and Interior Government (DILG) through its Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) program.

The project includes regrading and widening of the 1.1133km road, construction of retaining walls, construction of two-lane PCCP, and construction of drainage system among others. It is expected to be completed in September this year after 223 calendar days.

Kibungan is one of the two beneficiaries of the DILG’s CMGP program in Benguet for 2020 along with Kapangan for the Improvement and Upgrading of Lomon-Sagubo Provincial Road Phase II worth ₱ 34M.

For calendar year 2021, Benguet is one of the three recipients of the CMGP program in the Cordillera region aside from Apayao and Mt. Province.

CMGP program is an initiative of the National Government which addresses poor local road conditions. This program provides funds for such projects as incentives to provinces with good performance in terms of the implementation of Local Road Management and Public Financial Management reforms.

Julie Malig, MLGOO of Kibungan and the representative of DILG-Benguet during the ground-breaking ceremony, congratulated the provincial government of Benguet and the municipality of Kibungan for getting such support from the National Government because of their practice of Good Housekeeping.

Meanwhile, Governor Diclas thanked the people in the community for their cooperation especially those whose lot will be affected by the road upgrading and improvement.
