Authorities confiscated more or less P2.52 million worth of smuggled cigarettes along Don Toribio St., in Barangay Tetuan, Thursday morning, March 16.

As this developed, Mayor John Dalipe lauded authorities for the commitment in the anti-smuggling campaign, as he vowed to continue support to the security sector in a bid to keep Zamboanga City safe and secure.

Per report submitted to City Police Director Col. Alex Lorenzo, personnel from Police Station 6 were on their way to the station when they chanced upon laborers hauling boxes into a Multicab vehicle along Toribio Street around 11:50am.

The laborers scurried about when authorities approached them requesting for documents to prove legality of the items being hauled. The vehicle and the boxes were left behind and were thus, confiscated.

The boxes contained a total of 69 cases of assorted cigarettes amounting to more or less P2.52M.

The items were properly turned over to the Bureau of Customs Thursday afternoon.
