The City Government continues to assist hospitals alleviate the situation amidst the depleting oxygen supply caused by the spike in COVID-19 cases in the city.

An ISO tank containing 13,357 cubic meters of Liquid Oxygen, equivalent to 2,300 cylinders of 50 pounds each arrived from Cagayan de Oro Friday. This was a procurement by the City Government through the ZCDRRMO, from Nippon Sanso Ingasco Phils, Inc through the facilitation of DOH-9 and NIATF Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez.

The medical oxygen supply will be distributed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) and private hospitals as well as the city’s step-up isolation facility in Pasonanca.

Another ISO tank, containing same amount of Liquid Oxygen is arriving in the coming days, for the same purpose.

Earlier on, Mayor Beng Climaco and the LIATF also facilitated the delivery of medical oxygen supply for private hospitals from Cebu through the Philippine Coast Guard.

Hospitals in the city – both public and private, are overburdened due to the influx of COVID-19 cases, a number of them with severe symptoms, that result to shortage of beds, oxygen supply and medicines and manpower.

The City through the City Health Office has converted the Pasonanca Convention Center Isolation Facility into a step-down and step-up facility to help decongest hospitals.

The city is also hiring personnel to man isolation facilities that it established in collaboration with other agencies such as the DOH, DPWH, DEPED and the barangays. (Sheila Covarrubias)
