Mayor John Dalipe joins DSWD representatives in handing over the P100k Centenarian cash gift to 100-year old Lola Marina Miranda Enriquez of Bienvenido Drive, Canelar, as mandated under Republic Act 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016.”

The amount is the national government’s cash grant to senior citizens who reach the age of 100 with funding coming from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Also handed over to the centenarian was a letter of felicitation from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulating the celebrant for her longevity.

Mayor Dalipe extended his felicitations to the centenarian as he thanked her for her contributions to the society.

Meanwhile, the City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office  also grants cash incentives to centenarians based on the provisions of Ordinance 459 as amended by Ordinance 539 otherwise known as the Octogenarian and Nonagenarian Benefits for Senior Citizens of Zamboanga City.

Under the ordinance, a centenarian will receive P50,000 as cash incentive which is the city government’s counterpart to DSWD’s P100k as a way of honoring and recognizing the contributions of senior citizens to the society.

Based on Ordinance 539, senior citizens will be granted the cash gift even before they reach the age of 100.

Present during the handover of the centennial gift at Lola Marina’s residence were Executive Assistant for social welfare Affairs Edna Sumergido, DSWD and CSWDO representatives and Canelar barangay officials.
