Members and leaders of the different fraternities and sororities in Zamboanga City are expected to converge at the Mayor Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex or Grandstand in Baliwasan on Thursday, March 9, at 5pm for the candle light ceremony dubbed “Unido na Justicia para con Matt.”

The activity calling for justice be served to the death by hazing of Zamboangueño Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig is organized by the local Council of Greeks in coordination with the city government’s Local Youth Development Office and the Salilig family.

Participants will have to converge at the Grandstand at 4:30pm as the mass will follow at 6pm and the program proper at 7pm. Preparations for the upcoming candle light ceremony are sanctioned and approved by the Salilig family, particularly Matt’s father, Joefrey.

Speakers during the program will include Mayor John Dalipe, Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja, city police director PCol. Alexander Lorenzo, and Joefry Salilig, father of hazing victim Mattew.

Judge Gregorio Dela Peña III and the regional director of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR9) have also been invited to deliver their message during the program.

Proceeds from the sale of candles will be donated to the Salilig family, which is an initiative of the Council of Greeks. (Vic Larato)
